UP government prepares for Kanwar Yatra

Meerut (UP): The annual Kanwar Yatra scheduled to begin from July 14 will continue till August 12. The Uttar Pradesh government is making all preparations for it. Sources in the Meerut district administration said that special arrangements were being made to ensure cleanliness, power supply, drinking and provision for toilets along the routes of the Yatra. Devotees of Lord Shiva called ‘Kanwariyas’ visit Shiva temples every year between July 14 and August 12. They gather the Ganga water from Haridwar, Gomukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand and offer it to Shiva temples on their way.

According to district magistrate of Meerut Deepak Meena, a special plan has been made to facilitate the Kanwar Yatra and perform ‘Jalabhishek’ in different temples. The entire route will be plastic-free, he said, adding that CCTV cameras will be installed in sensitive places through which the Yatra will pass. According to sources, there will be food camps.
