Varanasi: A 22-year-old rape survivor has lost her life during forced abortion, the police said on Monday. This has happened even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid special emphasis on women’s dignity in his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort.
An FIR has been lodged against a driver, his friend, a senior official of a private hospital and a doctor in connection with the incident. According to superintendent of police (rural) Suryakant Tripathi, the woman lost her life during abortion on Friday. The driver raped the woman who was living with her uncle for studies.

When he came to know about her pregnancy, the driver took her to a private hospital for abortion. He, however, told that she would be given medicines for her ill health, the police said. The incident came to light after the woman died and her uncle lodged a complaint against the driver and the senior officer of the hospital who had been arrested. The police further said that efforts were on to nab the other culprits. The body of the woman was sent for post-mortem.
