Fed up with harassment by youth, girl ends life in Pilibhit
Pilibhit (UP): Unable to endure the shame after being molested by a youth, a 16-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house at Sungarhi area in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh, the police said on Tuesday. The girl as well as the accused in the case is from Dalit community. The Sungarhi Kotwali police registered a case against the culprit under the POCSO Act . According to superintendent of police Dinesh Prabhu, the culprit has been booked on the grounds of a complaint by the girl’s father and two residents of the village. Prabhu further said that a woman and a girl had also been booked in connection with the girl and that the details of the girl and the culprit had been collected and an investigation into the case began.
In charge of Sungarhi Kotwali police station, Balveer Singh, said that the culprit would often harass the girl who objected to it and informed her family members about her harassment. When she narrated her tale woes to her family members, they even asked the youth to mend his ways, but he barely paid any heed to it, Singh said.
