UP ex-minister’s daughter-in-law Gets extortion call, life threat

Shahajahanpur: The officers of Uttar Pradesh Police were shocked on Friday when they came to know that the daughter-in-law of former minister of the state Rammurti Singh Verma received an extortion call. The caller demanded Rs 10 lakh from her and said that if she failed to give the amount all her family members would be liquidated.

Superintendent of police Sanjay Kumar said that someone had called Archana Verma, daughter-in-law of former Rammurti Singh Verma and demanded Rs 10 lakh by Friday afternoon. The caller also said that he would send the account number in which the money would have to be deposited, the SP said,

The caller also used abusive language and threatened to kill the whole family if he did not get the money. On getting information, the senior officers of the department had set up several teams under circle officer (city) Akhand Pratap Singh. The teams would investigate the number from where the call had been made. Some police personnel have been deployed at Verma’s house. Archana Verma’s husband Rajesh Verma unsuccessfully contested the recent assembly election from Dadraul on the Samajwadi Party ticket.
