Dalit boy allegedly beaten by upper caste people in UP dies
Varanasi (UP): A 14-year-old Dalit boy beaten up by a group of upper caste people died, his family members said on Friday. On the contrary, the police claimed that the boy died of illness, because his body bore no injury marks during the post-mortem. On the grounds of the complaint lodged by the boy’s father the police registered an FIR against four persons and began an investigation into the case.

The father of the boy Papu Ram complained that his son Vijay Kumar Gautam had gone to the shop of a man named Guddu Singh a few days ago. Singh along with Pakru, Saurabh and Shivam accused Vijay of stealing mangoes and rice and attacked him. They also called the police and forced Vijay to pay Rs 400 for stealing mangoes and rice, Ram said in his complaint. Vijay who sustained internal injuries because of beating was admitted to a hospital where he died. According to SHO of Kapsethi police station Rajesh Tripathi, there were no injury marks on the body of Vijay and he died of illness.
