Bhakts’ worship UP minister, invite criticism

Lucknow: Bhakts can do anything to please their leaders. A few supporters were seen worshipping a minister of Uttar Pradesh, Sanjay Nishad, on Wednesday when the country was celebrating Guru Poornima. A video clipping of the incident went viral on social media on Thursday, kicking up a fierce debate over the issue.

After the video clipping of the Nishad incident went viral, sources said that the minister was also conferred the title of ‘Nishad Raj’ on the occasion. The event has landed Nishad, who calls himself the ‘political Godfather of fishermen’, landed him in a controversy. The Bharatiya Janata Party grinned at it saying such things should be avoided, as the Prime Minister calls himself Pradhan Sewak of the country.

A Nishad Party MLA, however, said that it was the partymen’s sentiments for Nishad. The legislator also said that there was nothing wrong in it, because the occasion was Guru Poornima when people worship their Gurus.

The present incident reminds one of an event in which a then minister of UP offered flowers at the feet of Indira Gandhi when she was the Prime Minister and was on a visit to the state. The incident occasioned a lot of criticism from newspapers, because the social media was unheard of those days.
