Allahabad HC rejects Kappan’s bail plea

Lucknow: Bail application of journalist Siddique Kappan, booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act in the Hathras conspiracy case, was rejected on Thursday. A single-judge bench of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Krishan Pahal, turned down the bail plea. Earlier, the bench reserved its order on August 2 after the conclusion of the arguments by the lawyers of the accused and state.

According to reports, earlier, a Mathura court rejected Kappan’s bail plea. And after that, he approached the high court. A reporter of Malayam news portal Azhimukham and secretary of the Delhi unit of Kerala Union of Working Journalists, Kappan and three others were detained on their way to Hathras to report a gangrape and murder of a 19-year-old girl in October 2020.  The police said that Kappan and three others who had links with the Popular Front of India (PFI) were trying to disturb the law and order of the state after a fortnight of her rape and murder.
