New Delhi: A Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar took a bite out of a brinjal in the Lok Sabha on Monday to protest against price rise during a discussion over inflation and rising prices. She said that the government failed to appreciate the pangs the common man is enduring because of the hike in prices of LPG cylinders.

The government is forcing the people to eat raw food, she said, adding that it would not be possible for the poor to pay Rs 1,100 for an LPG cylinder. She then took out a piece of brinjal and took a bite out of it.

The TMC MPs staged a protest in Parliament demanding a discussion on the safety of women. On Sunday, TMC MPs, Ghosh Dastidar, Dola Sen and Rajya Sabha MP Mausam Noor submitted notices on the need for a discussion on safety of women. They submitted notices on the heels of an incident in which Gujarat’s Rural Development Minister Arjunsinh Chauhan has been accused of raping and confining a woman for over five years. They were carrying placards which read “Stop crimes against women in Gujarat” at gate number 12 of the Parliament House.
