On Monday, he held a meeting with the officials of Rajgarh and Barwani districts where communal clashes recently took place and asked them to maintain communal harmony at all costs, sources said on Tuesday.

Chouhan said that people belonging to all castes and communities are the citizens of the country and that there should be no discrimination at the time of handing justice them. A few anti-social elements create chasm in the society, so they must be identified, so that they may not mislead the common man, he said.

The administration and the people’s representatives should work hand and in hand to maintain social harmony, Chouhan said, adding that whether they are Dalits or non-Dalits they are the citizens of India.

At a time when the Chief Minister is trying to apply balm to the injuries of the victims of clashes, the husband of a woman leader of the BJP Dinesh Kushwaha thrashed a 65-year-old man Bhawarlal Jain in Neemuch district.

According to reports, the man was mentally challenged and, when Kushwaha saw Jain moving around the city, he wanted to know from Jain his religious identity. As the man was mentally challenged, he failed to say anything about it, so Kushwaht thrashed him, suspecting him to be a member of a particular community.

Jain, a resident of Sarsi village in Ratlam district, had gone missing since May 15 after attending a religious event. On May 19, he was found dead in a secluded area in Neemuch district. The incident kicked up a political storm across the state, and the government ordered a probe into it.
