MP police detain Iranian couple

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh police have taken an Iranian couple into custody after they had a tiff with a jeweller in Vidisha district of the state on Monday night, official sources said on Tuesday. Both of them are nearly 50 years old and came to India on June 26 with a tourist visa only for a month, but they seemed to have overstayed in the country.

According to additional superintendent of police Sameer Yadav, the couple entered into a squabble with a jeweller who alleged that they had tried to steal valuables from his shop. As the situation was going out of hand, the jeweller informed the police but the driver of the taxi that the couple had hired ran away, he said. At a press conference, Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh Narottam said that the Iranian couple had arrived at Delhi from Tehran and visited the state.  He said that the couple was detained from Sironj town in Vidisha district and that as they do not know any language other than Persian, the police sought the help of interpreters for questioning them.
