Man denied hearse, carries mom’s body on motorcycle in MP district

Bhopal (MP): A government-run hospital in Shaldol district of Madhya Pradesh turned down a man’s request for a hearse to carry his mother’s body home for cremation. Then he put her body on a bike and began to move towards the cremation ground to perform her last rites. The incident came to light when a video of it went viral on social media.

According to reports, the woman identified as Jaimantri Yadav, is a resident of Anuppur district in Madhya Pradesh. The woman suffering from acute chest pain had to be admitted to the government health centre in Anupupr. As her condition deteriorated, she was rushed to the Shahdol district hospital where she died, sources said. Her son’s efforts to get a hearse to take his mother’s body home came to naught. It, however, came to light that a hearse was available in the hospital, sources said. As the financial condition of the family was not good, they could not arrange for a private ambulance.

Consequently, her son wrapped the woman’s body in a bedsheet, tied it to his motorcycle and drove nearly 50 km to reach home. Although the Madhya Pradesh government makes tall claims about health facilities, the state lacks it. An eight-year-old boy was recently seen waiting on the roadside for a vehicle to take his brother’s body home, as he was refused a hearse.
