India well-equipped to reply to enemy: Rajnath
Jammu: India is well-equipped to deal with anyone who tries to look at her territories, said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. He made the statement at a function held by Jammu People’s Forum on Sunday to pay homage to those soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Kargil War in 1999. Aside from attending the function, Singh met the family members of those who laid down their lives defending the country’s borders in Jammu and Kashmir, and honoured them.
The aim of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to protect the country’s interests and, for that, he has taken several steps to improve the country’s weapon system, Singh said.
The brave soldiers had thwarted the enemy’s plans to cross the country’s borders in 1948, 1962, 1965, 1971 and 1999, he said, adding that during all those wars Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh were the main war theatre, Singh said.
He said that Kargil War victory was an example of coordination among the three services. Aside from that, he cited the heroism that the Indian soldiers had shown during the wars in 1949, 1965 and in the country’s historic victory against the enemy in 1971.
He also remembered the soldiers who showed bravery in the incident that took place in Galwan valley. He further said that after the humiliating defeats in 1965 and 1971, Pakistan has begun a proxy war against the country, which has been going on for two decades, but the gallant soldiers have always given them a befitting reply. The nation is also ready to face any future challenges, he added.
