Domestic and commercial of rates power highest in national capital in country: BJP
New Delhi, July 11 (IANS) Delhi BJP on Monday hit out at the Arvind Kejriwal government for increasing power bill by nearly five per cent and said that the domestic and commercial rates in the national capital are the highest in the country.
"On the one hand the Delhi government has imposed conditions on the scheme of subsidy of electricity, and on the other hand has increased the rates of electricity in the name of Power Purchase Adjustment Cost (PPAC). The electricity bills have been increased by 4 per cent in the name of PPAC, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said.
"It is the responsibility of the companies to procure power on time. If companies do not fulfill this responsibility, then how can it be recovered from the public? Electricity can be bought at low rates in winter. The government has remained a mute spectator in this matter, which means that higher rates of electricity are being taken with the consent of the government."
He demanded that the hike in electricity rates be withdrawn immediately.
Bidhuri noted that the Kejriwal government spreads propaganda all over the world that the electricity rates in Delhi will not increase, while the truth is that the consumers of Delhi are being robbed from the backdoor.
"Fixed charges in Delhi are the highest compared to the whole country. In the name of pension of the employees, this money is being taken from the people of Delhi. However, the liability of the pension lies with the government, not the public," he said.
Bidhuri pointed out that the Delhi government has now imposed conditions on giving subsidies up to 400 units and that's too on request of consumers.
"Apart from this, the domestic and commercial rates in Delhi are the highest in the whole country. Delhi's domestic consumers have to pay around Rs 8 per unit and commercial consumers up to Rs 14 per unit which has been increased only in the last seven years," Bidhuri added.
