Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is a home to tigers and many birds, including vultures. Now, the state government is planning to bring in Cheetahs, declared extinct in 1952, from Namibia. Nearly ten Cheetahs, likely to be flown in from Namibia before August 15, will be kept at the Kuna National Park in Sheopur district of the state. According to sources, the government will radio collar ten leopards and as many hyenas kept in the Kuno National Park.

This will be done to understand their behaviour with the Cheetahs to be brought in the park, sources said on Thursday. The state government has sought radio collars and expertise from the Wild Wildlife Institute of India for the job. Namibia, which has the largest number of Cheetahs in the world, inked a pact with the state government last month to reintroduce Cheetahs. The last Cheetah was spotted in 1948 in the forests of Korea district in Chhattisgarh. According to wildlife experts, Madhya Pradesh has the proper environment to house Cheetahs whose number will grow with the passage of time.
