UP’s first tribal museum to come up in Balrampur

Lucknow: A tribal museum like the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum in Bhopal is coming up in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh, sources say. This will be the first tribal museum in the state and its aim is to promote tribal culture and tourism as is being done by  the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum.

Sources further say that it will be called ‘Tharu Janjati Museum’ and set up at Imilia Koder village in Balrampur district of UP.   The Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum promotes local tribal culture. Similarly,  the one in UP will focus on the lifestyle of the Tharus.

The people of this ethnic group live in Lakhimpur-Kheri, Gonda, Bahraich, Balrampur and various other places in the state. The museum being constructed on 5.5 acres is about to complete, sources said.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party wants to promote tribal culture and connect the ethnic people to the mainstream of the society. Therefore, after the completion of the tribal museum, the state government will establish similar museums in Lucknow, Sonbhadra and Lakhimpur-Kheri, sources say. The Madhya Pradesh government has chalked out many welfare schemes for the tribal people and they recently celebrated the birth anniversary of a tribal freedom fighter Tantya Mama.

According to a UP government spokesman, the cultural department has also proposed to construct a gallery - Azaadi ki Gauravgaatha - at the Government Archives, Lucknow.
Aside from that, a Sant Ravidas Museum will be established in Varanasi.
The UP government will also organise ‘One District-One Special Cultural Event, in every district.
