He has become the second batsman in the world to score 10,000 runs while batting at number three in ODI cricket. Virat Kohli is preceded by former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, with 12662 runs in ODIs batting at number three. Ponting batted at an average of 42.48 during this period and scored 29 centuries and 74 half-centuries.

Talking about Virat Kohli, he has 36 centuries in ODI batting at number three, while his average is above 62. Captain Kohli has scored the remaining 7 centuries in ODIs, batting at different numbers. Barring a few matches, Virat Kohli has been batting at number 3 continuously since the year 2012. Virat Kohli mostly batted at number four during the 2011 World Cup. Batting at number 3, Ricky Ponting and Virat Kohli have the record of most runs, followed by former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara, Jack Kallis and Kane Williamson.
