New Delhi: The monsoon is slowly but steadily covering the entire country ahead of its scheduled date, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The monsoon has further advanced into the remaining areas of north Arabian Sea, Gujarat and Rajasthan on Saturday. The southwest monsoon generally hits those places on July 8, but it was advance this year, sources in the IMD said.

According to the data, in the past 20 years, the southwest monsoon covered the entire country exactly on July 8. The monsoon hit the Kerala coast on May 27, three days ahead of its scheduled arrival. It has had the slow progress over the south peninsular areas and central India. It reached Delhi NCR and many parts of northwest Indian plains on June 30. It was three days behind schedule.
There may be normal to above normal rainfall in some parts of India, IMD said.
