After Manoj Mukund Naravane, Lieutenant General Manoj Pandey is the senior-most officer in the army. They are considered to be at the fore of the competition. He has 39 years of experience. Manoj Pandey commanded an engineer brigade in the western theatre, an infantry brigade along the LoC, a mountain division in the Ladakh sector and a corps in the northeast. Prior to taking over as the Eastern Command, he held the charge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command.

The post of Indian Army Chief was lying vacant since the Army Chief MM Naravane was elevated to the post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) after the untimely demise of India’s first CDS Bipin Rawat. The role of the Indian defence forces has increased amid the turbulent global strategic times. Amid the Russia-Ukraine war and our border tensions with China need strong defense leadership for our military. Even in our neighbour Pakistan things are not well on the democratic front and India needs to remain more vigilant.
