A 25-year-old gym trainer was allegedly assaulted and killed following an altercation at a client’s apartment in Bengaluru, police said. Four people have been detained in connection with the case.
The deceased has been identified as Nandan, a resident of Jakkur Layout in Yelahanka who worked as a trainer at a gym in Sahakara Nagar.
The incident took place at an apartment in Kempapura on Sunday morning. A murder case has been registered at Amruthahalli police station and investigators are examining CCTV footage and other technical evidence to establish what happened inside the flat.
Three Gym Colleagues, One Client Under Investigation
Police identified the four people detained as Vishwanatha, Sharath, Nishanth and Anush.
Vishwanatha, Sharath and Nishanth worked with Nandan at the gym, while Anush was a client known to the group. Police said Vishwanatha was Anush’s personal trainer.
According to investigators, all of them knew each other through the gym.
Group Went to Apartment After Gym Anniversary Event
Police said Nandan and his colleagues had attended an anniversary programme at the gym on Saturday evening.
After the event, Nandan, Vishwanatha, Sharath and Nishanth went to Anush’s apartment in Kempapura, where they planned to spend the night.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Mithun Kumar said the fatal altercation occurred between around 7 am and 7.30 am on Sunday.
Argument Escalated Into Violent Clash
According to the preliminary investigation, an argument broke out among the men and escalated into violence.
Police initially described the dispute as being related to personal issues. More recent accounts indicate investigators are also examining whether a financial dispute was involved. The exact motive has not yet been conclusively established.
Nandan suffered serious injuries during the altercation.
Vishwanatha and Sharath also sustained minor injuries in the clash, according to police.
Nandan Died of Injuries
Nandan was subsequently taken to a private hospital, where he was declared dead.
Police have registered a murder case based on a complaint from his family. His body was sent for post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.
One report citing preliminary police findings said Nandan suffered a head injury and that investigators were also examining indications that he may have been strangled. The final cause of death will depend on the medical and forensic findings.
CCTV Footage, Technical Evidence Under Scanner
Police are analysing CCTV footage from the apartment and surrounding area, along with other technical data and the statements of those present.
Investigators are also questioning the detained men separately to determine their individual roles and reconstruct the sequence of events before and during the alleged assault.
“Prima facie, it appears that the murder was committed for personal reasons,” DCP Mithun Kumar said, while adding that a detailed investigation was underway.
The case remains under investigation, and police have yet to announce a final conclusion on the motive or the specific role allegedly played by each of the four detained men.
