A tragic road accident in New Delhi claimed the lives of two cousins, including a 14-year-old boy, after a truck hit their bike in the Parliament Street area.
The accident happened on Monday around 10:30 pm when the two were returning home after watching an IPL match. According to police, the younger boy was on a phone call with his father, telling him they would reach home soon, just moments before the crash.
Police reached the spot and found both victims lying unconscious on the road in critical condition. They were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Sachin Sharma said the truck driver fled the scene after the accident.
The victims were identified as Yagya Bhatia (20), a college student, and Abhav Bhatia (14), a Class 10 student. Police said they were riding home when the truck hit them from behind. Neither of them was wearing a helmet.
Family members said the younger boy was talking to his father when the call suddenly went silent. Someone else later picked up the phone and informed the family about the accident.
Eyewitnesses said the impact was very strong, throwing both the boys and their bike onto the road.
Police later traced the truck to the trans-Yamuna area, where it had been left by the driver. The vehicle has been seized, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the accused.
A case has been registered, and the incident is being investigated as a hit-and-run.
