Date:

Political Desk – Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has accused the BJP of misusing India’s institutions to target political opponents. Speaking at an event in Berlin, he alleged that agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are being used as political tools by the ruling party.

The BJP strongly rejected the claims, calling Gandhi’s remarks anti-India and irresponsible.

‘Institutions Are Being Weaponised’: Rahul Gandhi

While addressing students at the Hertie School in Germany last week, Rahul Gandhi said India’s democratic institutions are under serious pressure.

“There is a full-scale assault on our institutional framework,” he said, adding that the ED and CBI are being used against leaders who oppose the BJP, while those aligned with the ruling party are spared.

He claimed that even businesspeople who support the Congress face pressure and threats, and said institutions are no longer working independently.

Claims on Elections and Democracy

Gandhi also repeated his allegation that elections in India are not always fair. He claimed that the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections were rigged in favour of the BJP.

He said the Congress had raised concerns with the Election Commission about duplicate names in voter lists and other irregularities but did not receive a response.

“We believe there is a serious problem with the electoral machinery,” he said.

Attack on Modi Government’s Economic Model

The Congress leader also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic policies, saying they have reached a dead end.

According to Gandhi, the BJP and the RSS have only continued the economic approach of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh without offering a fresh vision. He warned that the current model could increase social tensions in the country.

“This is a clash between two visions of India,” he said.

BJP Responds Strongly

The BJP strongly criticised Rahul Gandhi’s comments. Party spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari questioned whether someone who “truly loves India” would speak against the country abroad.

In a post on X, Bhandari accused Gandhi of trying to damage India’s democratic image and claimed the Congress promotes instability.

BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje also attacked Gandhi, saying he behaves “like a child, not a leader,” and accused him of repeatedly speaking against India on foreign platforms.
