Political Desk- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the biggest winner in the MCD bypolls, securing 7 out of 12 wards, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 3 seats. The Congress and the All India Forward Bloc won one seat each.

Counting began at 8 am on Sunday under tight security at 10 centres across Delhi. These bypolls were the BJP’s first major electoral test after coming to power in Delhi earlier this year.

Key Wins

BJP’s Suman Kumar Gupta defeated AAP’s Harsh Sharma by 1,182 votes.

In Shalimar Bagh B, BJP’s Anita Jain won by over 10,000 votes, one of the biggest margins.

BJP also won in Dichaon Kalan, Greater Kailash, and Dwarka-B.

Manisha Rani won Dwarka-B by 9,100 votes.

In a tight fight in Ashok Vihar, BJP’s Veena Asija won by 405 votes.

AAP’s Performance

AAP won Mundka, Dakshinpuri, and Naraina.

In Naraina, AAP’s Rajan Arora secured a narrow win by 148 votes.

Congress and Forward Bloc

Congress’ Suresh Choudhary won Sangam Vihar A with 12,766 votes, defeating BJP’s Subhajeet Gautam.

In Chandni Mahal, Mohd Imran of the All India Forward Bloc defeated AAP’s candidate by 4,692 votes.

Voter Turnout and Security

Voting was held on November 30, with a turnout of 38.51%, lower than the 50.47% recorded in the 2022 MCD election.
Nine of the 12 seats were earlier held by the BJP, and three by AAP.

The State Election Commission had deployed paramilitary forces, Delhi Police, and CCTV monitoring at strong rooms storing EVMs.
