News Desk – A 29-year-old man from Mahbubnagar, Telangana, was allegedly shot dead by police in Santa Clara, California, after a fight with his roommate, his family said on Thursday (September 18, 2025).

The deceased, Mohammed Nizamuddin, had moved to the US in 2016 to pursue a Master’s degree and had been living in Santa Clara since then.

His father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, said he was informed that his son was shot by police and that his body is currently in a local hospital.

“I do not know the exact reason why police shot him dead,” Hasnuddin wrote in a letter to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. He requested the minister to direct the Indian Embassy in Washington D.C. and the Indian Consulate in San Francisco to find out the details and help bring his son’s body back to Mahbubnagar.

The letter was shared on social media by Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan, who also appealed to the minister to extend support to the grieving family.
