The actors’ union, known as SAG-AFTRA, comes in support for actress Scarlett Johansson. She claim a voice in OpenAI’s sounded a lot like hers. Though, she had said no to being part of the project.
However, the CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, said the voice was from another actress. But this situation has started a discussion about actors’ rights as AI technology is good at mimicking human voices.
SAG-AFTRA working to get more protections for actors against the misuse of their images and voices by AI. The union is also pushing for new laws to help protect actors.
SAG-AFTRA, represents approximately 160,000 entertainment and media professionals worldwide, played a pivotal role in recent negotiations with Hollywood studios, securing better pay and increased protections for actors against the unauthorised use of their images and video through AI.
