Self-love is usually considered a selfish act by many orthodox people in the country. If you say to your husband that you are stressed out and are not interested to be a part of the house’s domestic chores, you will be perceived as a woman who is selfish and only is thinking about her well-being by many narrow-minded people. In order to keep the sanctity of their marital lives, many women go to extreme extents to prove how much they love their partners. But in the end, do they really realize is it worth it? Every woman deserves all the kind of respect and admiration from her husband, in-laws, family members irrespective of whether she is able to live up to their expectations. Such women who do anything for their families are considered to be role models by Indian society. However, women who say no to torture, emotional and physical abuse and opt to move away from unhealthy relationships are considered to be family-breakers or failures in Indian society.
As we have entered 2021, wherein we believe every man and woman are equal and have the potential to enjoy equal rights and deliver equal jobs in society and life, why do we have to still follow the old-age principles of women who have to abide by their partner’s or parents’ wishes if they want to live happily? Isn’t self-love or being who she is or doing what she wants enough for a woman to get the right status in the family and society? Why so much injustice towards women? Why can’t efforts be taken by men and family members to ensure that even women of the household lead happy and healthy lives? It’s time to stay happy by loving yourself and saying no to things that are not good for you, dear women!
