How to handle the coronavirus pressure and still stay calm

Some days back, a minister said that coronavirus is a once-in-century crisis and it is not something that we could be prepared for. Indeed, coronavirus or Covid-19 is a new crisis that no one was aware of before 2020. Yes, it was infecting people in China first before it reached India and other parts of the world. If you are the one who is getting anxious day by day reading the news and seeing the reality of what is going on outside, then you are triggering yourself to go into a depression mode with your thoughts and actions.

Here are some tips to stay calm despite the coronavirus pressure:

1) Breathe deeply in and breathe out. Whenever you feel stressed or panicked about the situation, just focus on your breathing patterns. Once you concentrate on your breathing, you come to the present moment and your mind gets distracted from what is bothering it. Practicing few minutes of breathing exercises every day will help you feel calmer.

2) Look at the positive side of everything you read, see or hear. Now if you are a highly emotional person, then it is difficult to detach yourself from the situation but all the time thinking about what will go wrong will only increase your stress levels. So, how about focusing on the positive aspects you are living in right now. For example, if you are at home and have no job to do, think about how you can add creativity to your new career and how about making your house cleaner and better to look?

3) Get lots of sleep. You don’t know but a good quality sleep of at least 7 to 9 hours at night and short power naps in the morning and afternoon can actually give a boost to your immune system and make you less stressed in life. When you have a calm mind, you are able to make better decisions.

4) Practice gratitude. See you need to now start acknowledging how fortunate you are for whatever you have with you right now. Some money in the bank, a shelter to stay, good food to eat, and happy relations with self and others. These things only define richness these days as you can see how people are fighting to get a covid-bed and oxygen as well. So, think that you are far better than people who are struggling right for their basic life necessities and make yourself calm and composed.
