Schizophrenia is a mental health issue that increases the person’s risk to develop infections, heart-related issues, and other preventable health problems than the remaining population. Schizophrenia rises the death rate of a person by 2 to 3 times. Recently, World Schizophrenia Day was observed to create awareness about the mental disorder and educate people on how the patients go through such challenges and difficulties in their everyday life.
Schizophrenia’s cause is yet to be identified and there is still research going on the same, however, some likely causes are psychological, genetic, and environmental factors. Chemical imbalance in the brain can also lead to such cognitive deficit and impair the mental state of a person that his emotions, reality perception, behavior, and thought procedures are impacted.
Some known symptoms of schizophrenia include speech impairment, neglect of the self, disconnection from society and family members, disorganized actions, changes in appearance, unstable emotions, confusion, hallucinations, and delusions.
There is no whole or complete cure for schizophrenia but the treatment is usually based on reducing the symptoms and making it less aggressive for patients. Counseling, special care, and antipsychotic medication are some of the ways of managing schizophrenia.

There is a lot of stigmas attached to mental health problems, which leads to people not taking up counseling or approaching a psychologist for treating their mind-related issues. It is essential for people to get educated and work towards creating awareness about the disorder and encouraging patients to take the medications and treatment instead of avoiding or fearing getting discriminated.
Remember this thing surely that no one is perfect. Everyone has some or other problems in their lives, which makes it difficult to achieve what they decide on a larger scale. However, this doesn’t make them any less. Everyone is unique and special and trying to give their best in their lives with whatever they have and whatever they know. So, let us not discriminate or tag people if they are going through any mental health issues and be encouraging for them to slowly open up and get the required timely treatment.
