New Delhi: The sleuths of the Enforcement Directorate raided the main office of the Congress-owned National Herald newspaper in Delhi and in 11 other places as part of an investigation into the money laundering case, official sources said on Tuesday. The purpose of the search was to dig out documents related to the alleged money laundering case. The raids were carried out after Congress’s interim president Sonia Gandhi and party MP Rahul Gandhi were recently questioned in connection with the National Herald newspaper case.
The ED officials raided the premises of the National Herald located in the Herald House building at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi. Nevertheless, the Congress called it a political vendetta, as no money was laundered. According to sources, the party has given Rs 90 crore to the ailing Associated Journals Limited (AJL) which published The National Herald (English), Quami Ekta (Urdu) and Najivan (Hindi). As the AJL was running in loss, the money was given to revive the publications in 2001-02 and 2010-11 through a charitable company created under the Companies Act, Young India.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is saying that the Gandhi family has grabbed the properties of the AJL worth Rs 2,000 crore, but the Congress contradicted the ruling party saying as Young India is a charitable organisation, no profit can be taken through it.
