New Delhi: Firebrand Trinamool Congress MP Mohua Moitra hit back at Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala who accused her of “hiding her expensive bag” during a discussion on price rise in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
Poonawala tweeted with pictures featuring her handbags: “Marie Antoinetter Mahau Moitra hiding her expensive bag during a discussion on price rise – hypocrisy has a face & it’s this! A party that believes in TMC – Too Much Corruption discusses price rise after not cutting VAT & alliance with UPA that gave runaway inflation of 10%,” the BJP leader captioned the clip.
Moitra retorted with a tweet consisting of a collage of her handbags. She wrote: “Jholewala fakir in Parliament from 2019.”

The video of Moitra, posted by Poonawala, raised a storm on social media and many netizens wanted to know how a person keeping such a costly handbag can afford to discuss prices in Parliament. Moitra further tweeted: “Jhola leke aye the… jhola leke chal padenge… (Had come with a bag… will go with a bag…,” she said, quoting Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s statement at a rally in 2016.
