Uttar PradeshSeven held in UP’s Meerut, Baghpat for adulterating petrol

Date:

Meerut/Baghpat: Selling adulterated petrol led to the arrest of seven people including the owners of five petrol pumps in Meerut and Baghpat districts of Uttar Pradesh, official sources said on Monday. A team of UP Special Task Force (UP STF), officials of the district administration and those of measurement and supply department made the arrests.

According to additional superintendent of police (STF) Brijesh Kumar Singh, when his team came to know that some petrol pump owners were selling adulterated diesel and petrol, they raided five petrol pumps — four in Meerut and one in Baghpat. They found that the petrol pumps were selling solvent-mixed fuel. Singh said that the dispensing machines were rigged as they installed separate mother boards to cheat customers.

The petrol pumps are owned by Nayara Company. The raids were conducted at Royal filling station in Saini, Partapur filling station on Delhi road, Siddhabali petrol station in Mawana, Dilli road filling station in Madhavpuram – all in Meerut – and Shiv service station in Meerut-Baghpat road in Baghpat. Nayara Company owned the petrol pumps.

A senior officer in the supply department filed a complaint after which five cases had been registered against ten people under the Essential Commodities Act against the petrol pump owners in Partapur, Barhmapuri, Ichauli and Hastinapur in Meerut, one Singhawali Areer police station at Baghpat.

The official said the mastermind behind the scam, Devendra Kumar aka Satyendra, was arrested.
