The traders have been given financial relief and allotted land behind their existing shops to set up their business. More than 50% of traders have removed their business establishments. A few traders have, nevertheless, sought time till November 8, because of two Parikramas beginning from November 1.

Ayodhya (UP): Traders running shops on the Ram Janmabhoomi Bhakti Marg in Ayodhya district of Uttar Pradesh have been asked to remove their shops so that the administration can begin a demolition drive for widening the road.

According to official sources, besides giving them financial relief, the administration has allotted them land behind their existing shops to set up their business. More than 50% of traders have removed their shops. As part of the road widening project, the business establishments of nearly 170 shopkeepers will be completely demolished, and those of 330 will be partially razed.

According to additional district magistrate Anil Kumar, the traders have been asked to vacate their shops. Meanwhile, a few shopkeepers have sought time to vacate their places till November 8 when Kartik Poornima will be celebrated, besides the two annual Parikramas in the holy city will begin from November 1. In the same way, the Panch Kosi Parikrama, beginning in the early morning of November 4, will end on the same day. Thousands of people take part in those Parikramas. When contacted a trader over the phone, he said that the traders had requested the administration to put off the demolition drive till the Parikramas are over, but the officials are in no mood to relent.

As the number of people were limited for these two Parikramas because of the pandemic, the traders expect a large crowd this year, he said.
