Kolkata: Many Muslims sell Rakhis in Siliguri district of West Bengal every year on the occasion of Rakshabandhan. At a time when many people are trying to whip up communal passion across the country, it is an example of harmony and brotherhood. The country is celebrating Rakshabandhan on Thursday.

Many Muslim families are involved in selling Rakhis in Siliguri and they have been doing it for many years.  They bring Rakhis from Lucknow, Delhi and Kolkata. According to a trader, they have been doing this business traditionally. The traders said, “Selling Rakhis is an honour for him. It has nothing to do with any religion. It’s a bond of love.”

The festival is celebrated on the full moon in the month of Sawan. According to the Hindu almanac, Sawan is considered an auspicious month when Lord Shiva is worshipped.
