New Delhi: The Supreme Court has granted more time to the Uttar Pradesh government to file a reply to the plea submitted by Ashish Mishra, challenging the Allahabad High Court order that denied him bail in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. A bench comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice BV Nagarathna said that the case would be heard on November 7.

Senior lawyer Mukul Rastogi appeared for the petitioner. Son of Union minister Ajay Mishra, Ashish Mishra, moved the Supreme Court challenging the Allahabad High Court order that denied him bail in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence in which four farmers were killed. The high court issued the order on July 26 this year. Mishra facing murder charge for the incident, in which eight people, including four farmers, were allegedly crushed by his car. It took place on October 3, 2021 when the farmers were protesting against three farm laws passed by the Central government.
