Jaunpur: A criminal carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head was shot dead in an encounter with the police at Badlapur in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh, official sources said on Saturday.  The 40-year-old criminal Vinod Singh was wanted in connection with two dozen cases of robbery murder and dacoity. He was operating in Jaunpur district and its surrounding areas.

According to senior superintendent of police Ajay Sahni, a constable sustained injuries in the encounter in Badlapur late Friday night. The history-sheeter was a resident of Chitampatti village under Sarpatahan police station of the district.

After shooting down the criminal, the police recovered a huge cache of arms including a 9mm mini-carbine, 32 bore pistol, a large quantity of live cartridges and a stolen motorcycle from his possession. No sooner had Singh seen the police, he began to fire at them. The police team, which was pursuing the criminal, retaliated and iced the felon.
