Uttar PradeshBSP may join opposition if Maya is declared PM candidate: Party

Date:

Lucknow: If the opposition parties declare Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati as next prime minister in the 2024 general elections, they can join their camp, sources in the party said on Wednesday.  According to national spokesperson Dharamveer Chaudhary, the final decision will, however, be taken by Mayawati.  Political observers in UP say it is a major political development.

He further said that if the opposition parties respectfully approach the BSP and inform it of their agenda, the party would see whether it can join hands with the opposition or not.  Mayawati is a leader with a pan-Indian appeal and the opposition parties do not have such a leader, Chaudhary said. The BSP had been kept out of the meetings the Trinamool Congress and Nationalist Congress Party held before the President’s election. They were to take a decision on the candidates for the post of President and that of the Vice President.
