MOSCOW: The Taliban’s control in Afghanistan is increasing since the withdrawal of US troops. The Taliban claimed on Friday that it had control of 85 percent of Afghanistan. Hours after US President Joe Biden defended his decision to withdraw troops from the prolonged war in Afghanistan, the Taliban said its fighters had captured the border town of Islam Fort.

The Taliban delegation in Moscow said it controlled about 250 of Afghanistan’s 398 districts. However, it is almost impossible for the Afghan government to confirm this claim. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told that the Islam Fort border crossing is under our full control, while government officials in Kabul said fighting was ongoing. Interior Ministry spokesman Tarek Arian said, “Border units all Afghan security forces are present in this area and efforts are on to recapture this space.”
