Patna: Bihar assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha resigned on Wednesday, sources said. Now that Sinha has resigned as Speaker, Deputy Speaker Maheshwar Hazari will conduct the proceedings of the House. Such a situation occurred when Sinha asked a law-maker of the Janata Dal (United) Narendra Narayan Yadav to run the House. The Speaker’s decision sparked protests. The ruling party legislators then brought a no-trust move against the Speaker who resigned and left the House that he adjourned till 2pm. Immediately after that, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said that it was illegal under the law of the House. According to Chaudhary, handing the charge of the House to any legislator is justified onlyu in the absence of a Deputy Speaker.

He further said that since the Deputy Speaker was present in the House, it would have been illegal if an MLA had run the business of assembly without his approval. After that, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary went to the chamber of Deputy Speaker and requested him to conduct the business of the House.
