Hindi Diwas or Hindi Day is celebrated in India on 14th September every year to encourage the use of the Hindi language all over the country. The first Hindi Day was observed on 14 September 1953 by the then Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The language of Hindi became an official language of India at the Constituent Assembly on 14 September 1949.

Hindi Diwas or Hindi Day is observed in the country by organizing seminars, activities, and quizzes in schools and colleges. Speech competition, essay writing in Hindi are also conducted as a way to show respect to the language and promote its usage. This year, the Films Division observed Hindi Pakhwada from 1st to 15th September 2021 to encourage the usage of practical Hindi for official purposes.
You will be amazed to know that Hindi is not just a language that originated and is celebrated in India but all over the world, people do commemorate World Hindi Day or Vishwa Hindi Diwas on 10 January. It was in 2006 that the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced 10 January to be considered as World Hindi Day with an aim to promote Hindi as an international language.

This year, the Central Board Of Secondary Education (CBSE) wished on social media with a message that: “Hindi is not just our language. Hindi is also our identity.”
Even the current Prime Minister of India Narendra Modiji shared his wishes on the occasion of Hindi Day. Appreciating the efforts of everyone who has contributed to the growth and progress of the Hindi language, union home minister Amit Shah also extended his wishes mentioning how Hindi has become an effective and powerful medium of national unity, identity, and Indian culture.
Out of the 22 scheduled languages in India, Hindi is one of the main languages that is majorly spoken in North India and also used in public places for communication in different parts of the country.
