What is the reason behind people celebrating Diwali?

It is believed that on the occasion of Diwali Hindu deities Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and Goddess Sita came to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. Along with this, it is also said that Diwali is the festival of victory of light over the darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
From the Indian mythology, we came to know Lord Rama came back to Ayodhya after killing Ravana- the evil. For celebrating this victory and for welcoming Lord Rama, the people of his empire celebrated by lighting up diyas and candles. Therefore, from that time till now people celebrate Diwali. Hence, this is the festival that commemorates the return of Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and Goddess Sita from 14 years of exile.
What do people usually do at the festival of Diwali or Deepavali?
Starting with the pooja of Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and Goddess Sita, people do lots of things on the occasion of Diwali. But the first thing that is done is doing pooja of the deities and people pray for their good health, wealth, etc.
The festival of Diwali is also known as the festival of lights. So, this is the day on which people light up candles, diyas, and modern lights in their house. All the houses look beautiful and the same on the occasion of Diwali. Not only lights but people on the occasion of Diwali distribute so many things to their neighbors, relatives, and friends. Some of the people give sweets, some give gifts, dry fruits and many other things too. Giving gifts to one another shows the love of people for one another. Apart from the above mentioned, people also make good food, sweets and many other things at their home. All the good food is eaten on this day and people burn crackers as well to enjoy.
