Islamabad: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) urged the Pakistan government to give permission to import vegetables from India, sources said on Tuesday. The skyrocketing prices of vegetables because of ongoing floods across the country has forced the LCCI to seek permission for importing vegetables from the neighbouring country through the Wagah border. LCCI president Nauman Kabir reportedly urged the government for it. According to him, the recent floods have ruined the crops of tomato, onion, potato and those of other vegetables and it will take at least three months to get out of the present problem.

The vegetable prices might go up further in the coming days, he said, adding that it would take a few days to bring vegetables from India to Pakistan. Tomato is selling at Rs 250 a kilogram. Similarly, onion is selling at more than Rs 320 a kilogram. Potatoes cost Rs 140 a kilogram. Therefore, the LCCI has decided to seek permission for importing vegetables from the neighbouring country, sources further said.
