NationalSC to hear petitions seeking scrapping of Article 370 after Dussehra vacations

Date:

New Delhi: The petitions seeking scrapping of the provisions of Article 370 will be heard after Dussehra vacation, the apex court said on Friday. The Central Government led by Narendra Modi scrapped the Article 370 of the Constitution of India on August 5, 2019. Because of the Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir was given a special status. After scrapping the article, the Centre also divided J&K into two Union territories: Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Challenging its constitutional validity, several petitions were filed in the apex court which will have to re-constitute a five-judge bench to hear the pleas after Dussehra vacation. Retirement of two members of the five-judge bench set up earlier, comprising former CJI NV Ramana and Justice R Subhash Reddy, has necessitated the reconstitution of the bench that will hear the petitions related to scrapping of the Article 370.
