Farrata runner Nirmala Sharon gets 4-year ban, Asian title too

Agency, Monaco. Indian Farrata runner Nirmala Sharon has withdrawn her two Asian Championship titles with the Athletics Integrated Unit (AIU) banned for four years in a doping case.

AIU deals with the doping case of track and field athletes. In June 2018, the AIU had found Nirmala guilty of using steroids drostanolone and metanolone in domestic competition. Subsequently, he was banned on October 7.

According to AIU, the blood samples of this Indian athlete were found to be defective. He has accepted the sanctions and did not demand a hearing of the case. His suspension will be effective from 28 June 2018, while all of his results from August 2016 to November 2018 were canceled.

Nirmala won the gold medal in the 400m and fourx400m relay at the Asian Championships held in India in 2017. He also participated in both these events in Rio Olympics.
