We live in a society where millennials are constantly expected to perform their best at all stages and areas in their lives. There are pressures not only at the workplace to be competitive and run in the rat race but also in the personal life wherein each relationship has to be given equal time to keep it lively and unbreakable. It is indeed true that millennials are the burnout generation because there are people who are born after 1981 and are constantly compared, criticized, and pressurized to do more and better than any generation not only in India but in many parts of the world.

Stress is a common illness that every millennial suffers from because they look for happiness and satisfaction in everything they do but society doesn’t allow them to remain at peace for a longer period of time by giving them new challenges every now and then. So, let us first understand what is burnout all about? Burnout is basically an extreme form of stress that is often related to depression. Due to the excess stress, burnout can manifest in the form of physical and mental tiredness that makes even the simplest tasks of daily living quite difficult to achieve such as caring for elderly parents, traveling to the workplace daily, and fulfilling the needs of the children and partners, etc. Burnout can make an individual feel trapped and lonely, thus putting a roadblock in the individual’s career and life’s growth.

The constant pressure from family and the workplace to do things as per their demands and needs makes many suffer from burnout. They don’t find any motivation to do whatever they are doing and end up feeling frustrated in life. In order to come out of this burnout trap, one needs to understand thyself first and then start explaining and expressing themselves to others.
I remember a friend of mine who was struggling to keep a peaceful relationship with her demanding in-laws. She was so frustrated with them that she couldn’t find anything positive in her marital life. Due to their old age, the in-laws didn’t know and understand the meaning of giving private space and time to the young couple. Eventually, things started messing up in her life and her burnout started showing results in her work and personal life as well.
She decided to take up individual counseling and take a break from her daily routine life to understand where was she going wrong. She could find out clarity in things when decided to keep time for meditation, yoga, and spiritual practices on a regular basis. With much intervention and taking help from her relatives, she finally found that her views were challenging the way the orthodox society works and she should just mind her business and keep herself focused on her life goals.
Burnout can happen to anyone at any point time in life. There is no fixed duration a person may feel tired mentally as it depends a lot on the external and internal situations. You need to keep doing a SWOT analysis of your life to come out of the traps and regain a new hope in life every time you feel life is pulling you backward.
