Lucknow: Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Draupadi Murmu is visiting Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, on July 8 to seek support from the country’s largest state, sources said on Thursday.

The opposition has nominated former Union minister and former leader of the Trinamool Congress leader Yashwant Sinha.

She plans to meet the legislators and the Members of Parliament of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as well as of its allies. She will also seek support from those parties which are not part of the NDA government. As Uttar Pradesh is the largest state in the country, it will play the key role in the presidential polls. The value of one vote of an MLA is 208 and that of one MP is 700. The value of votes of 273 MLAs of the BJP and its allies and 66 Lok Sabha and 25 Rajya Sabha MPs is about 1.21 lakhs. Therefore, the state has 14.88% of the total votes of 10,86,431 people’s representatives across the country.
