Kanpur: The brutal murder of an elderly couple in the Barra area of Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district sent shockwaves through the city on Tuesday. The children of the 52-year-old Munna Lal and his 54-year-old wife Rajdevi found their parents lying in a pool of blood in their house. Their throats were slit with a sharp-edged weapon, the police said. Munna Lal took retirement from the post of supervisor at the field gun factory.

The couple’s daughter Komal and son Anoop Uttam were present in the house, the police said, adding that Anoop had blamed his in-laws for the murder. He told the police that he had been married to Sonika in 2017, but she returned to her parental home, as she could not get along with him. After she had returned to her parental home, Anoop filed a case of divorce. As the case is going on in the court, his brothers-in-law Surendra and Mayank used to threaten him with dire consequences, Anoop alleged. According to Anoop, the family went to sleep early on Monday night and, in the early hours of Tuesday, his sister woke him up to say that their parents had been polished off.
Immediately after that, he informed the police who arrived at his residence with forensic experts.

When the police began to sift through the CCTV camera installed in the house of Anoop’s neighbour, they saw a man entering the house at 11:45pm under suspicious circumstances and the masked suspect left the house at 2:15am. After leaving the house, he went to the Sankat Mochan temple.
