Incidents of attack on elderly people rising in UP

An elderly couple was found dead in their house in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district on Wednesday, the police said. This was second incident of murder of an elderly couple within a week.

On July 4, an elderly couple was murdered in their house at Barra 2, Yadav Market area in Kanpur. The police are yet to lay their hands on the criminals involved in the murder. The murderers slit the throat of 61-year-old Munna Lal Gupta and that of his wife 55-year-old Raj Devi (55). Gupta recently retired from a field gun factory.

Additional superintendent of police in Gonda Shiv Raj said that 75-year-old Zakir Mohammad and his 70-year-old wife Nanka were attacked by unidentified persons early in the morning of Wednesday when they were asleep. Their bodies were found in a room with heads crushed with a heavy object. The couple lived alone in a house on the outskirts of the Belbhariya in Gonda district. The ASP said that the incident may have been the fallout of an old enmity. The police are investing the case.
