Panchayat member’s properties worth Rs110cr attached in UP

Bahraich (UP): Properties worth Rs 110 crore, belonging to a jailed member of Payagpur Zilla Panchayat in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh Devendra Singh, have been attached, sources in the district administration said on Sunday. District magistrate Dinesh Chandra Singh and senior superintendent of police Keshav Kumar Chaudhary attached the properties. A heavy police force was present when the properties of Singh were being attached.

The properties he accumulated were disproportionate to Singh’s known sources of income. They included a resort worth Rs 85 crore and a marketing complex named Veersen Sinha Marketing Complex worth Rs 85 crore. As many as 50 criminal cases have been registered against him in Bahraich and in other places, sources said. The action was taken against Singh and his chum Manish Jaiswal under the Gangster Act. According to the district magistrate, the administration had announced a reward of Rs 1, 00,000 on Singh and Rs 25,000 on Jaiswal before their arrest.
