Meerut: The residents of the Shastri Nagar area in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh woke up to a horrific sight on Monday. A 65-year-old woman and her 12-year-old granddaughter were lying dead at their residence in a pool of blood with their throats sliced. Both of them belonged to a retired policeman’s family in Shastri Nagar under Nauchandi police station.
The retired policeman Ratan Singh died of cancer a few years ago, sources said. The woman Kaushal Sirohi was the wife of the late Ratan Singh and the girl Tamanna was his granddaughter. The incident came to light in the morning when their domestic hand opened the door and came across the bodies lying on the floor with their throats slit. The floor of the room was soaked with blood and the main gate of the house was open. On getting information, a police team headed by the inspector general of police Parveen Kumar rushed to the spot.

Locals said that the woman was living with her granddaughter. Although household items were scattered everywhere at the residence, the police could not say anything about the motive for the murder. Kumar, however, said that an investigation into the case was going on.
