Gang blackmailing innocent under SC/ST Act falls into CBI dragnet

Date:

Prayagraj (UP): A gang that extorted money from people filing cases under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against them has fallen into the trap of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh, sources said on Friday. The probe agency began to act against the gang after order of the Allahabad High Court last month. There were complaints that the gang was blackmailing innocent people under the Act.

Sources further said that most such cases had been registered at Mauaima police station in the district. Out of 51 cases of rape and SC/SC Act, 36 had been registered at the Mauaima police station and 15 in other police stations.  The CBI sleuths will meet the victims in connection with the cases. One such case was related to a woman who had filed a case of gangrape against two lawyers, sources further said. In her complaint, she claimed that two lawyers had gang raped her minor daughter in their car. According to the police investigation, the case was fake.
