UP House to have day reserved for women legislators

UP House to have day reserved for women legislators

Date:

Lucknow (UP): A day will be reserved for women legislators in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly in the ensuing monsoon session beginning from September 19, official sources said on Tuesday. The decision was taken as there were complaints from women members that they do not get appropriate time to raise their points of view in the House, said Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana.

He said a day would be reserved for the women legislators in the monsoon session. In an informal discussion, the women law-makers said that they did not get enough opportunity to speak in the House, so the House decided to fix a day for them that they may put up their points of view on the issues related to them, the Speaker further said.

In the monsoon session, ta coffee vending machines will be installed for the members in the lobbies, sources said, adding that the legislators generally go to the Central Hall for refreshments when the House does not function. Mahana also confirmed that coffee machines would be installed in lobbies so that the members do not have any problems in getting refreshments.
